Catching Up

It has been two months since we last posted which is primarily a sign of our relaxed and un-interesting life.  That may sound like a negative but we sort of like our calm, relaxed days.  Not much new; we have visited with grandchildren and friends; been to Costco a few times and to Home Depot, Walmart and Fred Meyer.  We've read several books and assembled several jigsaw puzzles.  We have also improved our scores on the Wii Fit games that Millie got for Christmas.  We have also been getting ready for and planning our trip to Norway, Russia and Europe that is coming up in May.

But right now we are on the road in the motorhome.  We visited Death Valley National Park last week.  With this visit we can now say that we have visited all National Parks in the 48 contiguous states.  It has taken 2 years to do it but we got it done and had a wonderful time doing it.  Next year we will be traveling to Alaska to visit the parks up there.

Death Valley has the lowest point in the US.  This is the only time we have been below sea level and been able to breath.

Miles of salt flats.  We were VERY happy to have temperatures in the 70s rather than the 120s of the summer.

We had pictured DV as nothing but the salt flats but we spent 3 days exploring the beautiful flash flood gouged canyons around the rim of the valley.  There were some wonderful hikes up into some absolutely beautiful rock formations....and the "quiet" was almost so loud that it made you want to whisper as if you were visiting a church.

Along our trip we were able to visit with Millies brother in Sacramento.  Lee's brother and wife met us in Borrago Springs for a nice visit and lunch; we also stopped by to see Lee's mom in Torrance.  All are doing well.

We are currently heading up the coast highway of California and we will continue to north along the coast until the weather turns bad or we get home.
