We did not have our camera with us while touring Washington since we couldn't take it into the White house so these all came from our phone cameras. We had a very long day taking in the tours that we had arranged through our Congressman. We had one hiccup at the Pentagon since we were not told that we needed two pieces of ID to take their tour so we could only walk around some of the areas outside. The 9/11 memorial is not yet open but we did stop at this temporary memorial.
Inside the Capital Building rotunda. This was orginally made of wood but was replaced with iron due to fire danger. We had gallery passes to the House chamber and had a nice visit even though the House adjourned the day before we got there. Something about wanting to go home and get re-elected.
We had a very nice morning at the White House. No, the President didn't come down and offer us a beer but we did see his press conference room being set up for when Rahm annouced he was leaving.
Outside the capital building. The new visitor center is under ground right below where Millie is standing.
The White House from Pennsylvania Ave
No pictures were allowed in the White House but we got a few as we left the East Entrance. This is the Entrance that they use to greet dignitaries. You will note that there was no red carpet for us.
It was a wonderful visit and we got very adept at riding the subway system. Our Capital is one of the most beautiful cities that we have been fortunate to visit. The monuments, buildings and displays all combine to give an excellent story of our history, our strengths and weaknesses, our accomplishments, our failures and our potential.
