It's good to be home
We had an exceptional trip but it is also very nice to come home. We arrive yesterday and spent today cleaning all the Alaska dust and mud out of the motor home. We have over 1000 pictures to sort through and get ready to bore any unsuspecting family or friend that happens to stop by.

We got Bears!
We found the bears! Or, I suppose it would be more correct to say we found the salmon and the bears were already there. After our brief ferry ride from Haines to Skagway and having the wonderful opportunity to drive the motorhome around INSIDE a big ship, we headed south on the Cassier Highway. After being disappointed with our weather canceled trip to see the bears at Brooks Falls we heard about a little town at the end of a dirt road in southeast Alaska called Hyder. Running through Hyder is a little creek called Fish Creek which is the spawning ground for the largest Chum salmon in the world.
Watching the spawning ritual was fascinating but when the eagles showed up for dinner....
...and this huge grizzly came by to show us how fishing is really done....
it was truly amazing. One of the highlights of the entire trip.
We ran our camera batteries dry and continued south into more beautiful country. Heading for home but still lots to see on roads we missed on our way up north.
We are now stopped in a little Provincial Park at the bottom of a canyon on the road to Prince Rupert, BC. We don't have any services here but we found that if we put the Verizon Aircard about 30 feet up a nearby tree we can get just enough signal to post this to the blog.
