Moscow, Day 2 - The Kremlin

Just about every town in Russia has a Kremlin which is really only the original fortress of the old town.  In Moscow, the Kremlin is now the seat of government of the Russian Federation.  Security was tight entering the walled compound but not much different than entering the White House or Capital Building in Washington.  They "profile" in Russia but Lee got in anyway.

The gounds of the Kremlin are filled with beautiful government buildings.  This is the Office of the President.  The streets inside the walls are empty except for racing official government cars that pedestrians must avoid.  Lots of uniformed security as well as very obvious civilian security as you would expect.

One big surprise to us was the Cathedral Square inside the Kremlin.  It makes sense when you remember that the Kremlin has always been the center of  Moscow and religion (and not the "godless-state" under the Soviet) has been central to the Russian charactor throughout history.  There are at least 9 churches around the square including one housing the remains of many of the Czar and their families.

Surrounding the government office buildings just inside the Kremlin wall are beautiful gardens.
